Last week we read from 1 Timothy 1 verse 18; This charge I commit unto thee, son Timothy, according to the prophecies which went before on thee, that thou by them mighest war a good warfare. In every prophecy that is given, there is a time factor embedded within. When prophecy is given there is an
aspect of time included. I have never seen one prophecy coming without the aspect of time involved, although the Prophet might not specifically point out the exact time as to when the prophecy shall be realised, but you need to understand that within every prophecy there is a time aspect. There is a time aspect and there is a sacrificial aspect that is expected before any prophecy can come to pass.
Last week we were trying to look at why we have certain prophecies never coming to pass of which people might end up trying to blame it on the Prophet or maybe on the prophecy or maybe on something else, but it is not common to see people blaming themselves. In most cases they try to find something else to blame for any unfulfilled prophecies.
So the fact that it is prophesied does not guarantee the fulfilment of the prophecy. It’s not all about having a Prophet prophesying to you about something, there is more to that, which is expected from the person that got the prophecy. So these are things that I would want you to understand and to take note of when it comes to prophecies.
Timothy is being encouraged by his father to fight for his prophecies and also to be given power by the same prophecies in order for him to fight. In other words it is clear that if he is not willing to fight then he is really not willing to receive his prophecies. I want you to look at something that is happening in other several scriptures in the word of God where you see people after receiving their prophecies they had to fight for the fulfilment of their prophecies.
There is a time in the book of Daniel chapter 9 especially from verse 2 during the second year of King Darius, the king of the Medes and during his first year of reign, Daniel says I learnt, I understood or I learned by books that the years where supposed to be seventy years in captivity. In the first year of his reign I Daniel understood by books the number of the years, whereof the word of the Lord came to Jeremiah the prophet, that he would accomplish seventy years in the desolations of Jerusalem.
I understood by books, Daniel is a prophet and Jeremiah also is a prophet, but everything that Jeremiah prophesied, it was written, it was found in some scrolls and then Jeremiah had already prophesied that Israel was going to be captured by the Babylonians and he had already given a time frame to that slavery, he said you are going to be there for seventy years and after seventy years the Lord God of Israel is going to return you, bring you back into the promised land.
So Daniel was among those that were captured from Jerusalem into Babylon, though he was a prophet, but he was also captured. He is now in a moment where he is tired of that period of time and he knows that the only way I can come out of this situation is when I can look into the prophecies that were given concerning me and then he came across a passage of scripture where Jeremiah had already prophesied that they were going to be enslaved by the Babylonians for seventy years and he is realising that the seventy years were already over and simply because the seventy years were over he didn’t fold his hands.
The next verse, if you read your bible carefully you will notice that that’s when he started his prayers and he started fasting, he started seeking the face of the Lord until the angel Gabriel had to appear to him. So all of us I think we can see that the prophecy was already given that it will only take seventy years to come out, but after seventy years they are not yet out.
Daniel then understood by books or by prophecy that am supposed to be in this condition only for seventy years and if I don’t pray about it I will get into eighty years, if I don’t fast about it I will get into hundred years. So it will not happen simply because it is time, it will happen simply because you are now ready to fight in the right time. So these are simple principles that you need to understand because you will get more prophecies again upon the prophecies that you got already, but how many of those prophecies are going to come to pass? You are going to determine which one is going to be fulfilled.
So you need to understand, I gave you again some time back, scriptures like where you see God promising Israelites that they are going to be in Egypt for four hundred years and they were not in Egypt for four hundred years, it was more than four hundred years. God did not deliver them from Egypt right after four hundred years like He had promised, He only delivered them when they had cried unto the Lord. They prayed about it and God remembered His prophecy, He remembered His covenant.
So simply because it is time does not mean that you will get your prophecy fulfilled, you will have to fight even when you feel it is the right time. There is a very interesting story in the book of 1 kings the first chapter, the entire chapter carries a story of David when he was now old and about to die and he had given a promise to Bathsheba that Solomon was going to reign after him, but then when he was now old about to die, there is a guy by the name Adonijah who also selected some of David’s generals including Joab and also Abiathar the priest and he went into the forest and he made them to anoint him to be king of Israel.
So he conspired, he arranged with some of the generals and he knew exactly, you will notice in the next chapter that he knew prophetically the throne was given to Solomon and not to him, but then he said I will not sit, I will not relax, I will have to fight for this position. And this is happening at the time when David was now sick and he was no longer involved in too much politics and these young guys were now taking advantage. It was during those times when they began to have a lot of factions.
So Adonijah also said I would want to reign and Solomon we don’t hear of anything, we don’t hear him saying anything about it, but as they were busy anointing Adonijah, there was a message, I don’t know how Nathan the prophet came across this information, maybe prophetically or maybe he was told physically, but he went to Bathsheba and he said, you Bathsheba do you know that Adonijah has been anointed to be the next king? And yet the king promised you that your son Solomon is supposed to reign after him. So what are we going to do?
And Nathan said let us come up with a plan we will not just sit here because there was a prophecy given. Your son is likely going to lose it if we don’t come up with a plan. We will not relax, we are not going to rest, we are not going to sleep, simply because there was a prophecy given to your son, we have to do something about it. Are you following this? So Nathan then said unto Bathsheba I want you to go to the king and remind the king that remember you king you swore unto me and before the Lord that my son was supposed to reign in your stead. How come I hear there is Adonijah who has just been anointed to be the next king? Are you aware of it?
And Nathan said and it shall come to pass even as you talk to the king I will also come in. It’s a well planned thing and it’s amazing how a prophet can plan such a thing. You go ahead of me and I will follow after you. When I come in I will also confirm your word. You see if you notice you will realise that already David had made a vow.
