A 31-YEAR-OLD man from Filabusi in Matabeleland South has been sentenced to 15 years in prison for raping and assaulting a 12-year-old girl.
“On the 25th of November, 2024, in Filabusi, the accused approached a 12-year-old girl while she was on her way to school with her siblings. He asked for directions, then forcibly took her to a nearby bush, removed her clothes, and had unprotected sexual intercourse with her without her consent”, said the National Prosecuting Authority in a statement on X.
After the rape, the accused assaulted the girl, striking her three times on the back of her head with an unknown object.
The victim sustained deep cuts and fell unconscious.
She regained consciousness hours later and was found by a passerby, who took her home after noticing her injuries.
The victim was later taken to a local hospital for examination, and a case was reported to the police, leading to the accused’s arrest.
