“‘DEAR woman, why are you crying?’ Jesus asked her. ‘Who are you looking for? . . .'” — John 20:15.
Mary Magdalene was crying because she had not found what she was looking for in the tomb: Jesus’ body.
Then, the very Jesus she was searching for suddenly appeared, asking: “Why are you crying? Who are you looking for?”
At first, it seems like a simple question, but it is profound.
Jesus is the answer to all our tears, all our struggles and all our searching.
When Jesus asks us, “Who are you looking for?”
He is reminding us that He is the one we have been searching for all along. He is the solution to our problems, the comfort in our sorrow and the hope in our despair.
Mary was crying because she had not found Jesus’ body.
Ironically, the very person she was looking for was standing right in front of her. This is a powerful reminder that when Jesus asks us that question, He is saying: “I am here; I am the answer. The search is over.”
We often find ourselves searching for answers, for peace, for comfort and for hope.
We look in different places, try various things and seek advice from others. But the truth is, Jesus is the answer to all our searches.
He is the one who can bring us peace in the midst of chaos, comfort in times of sorrow and hope when we feel hopeless.
Jesus is inviting us to recognise Him as the solution to our problems. He is inviting us to look beyond our circumstances and see Him standing right in front of us, waiting to bring us comfort, peace and hope.
The next time you are crying, feeling lost or searching for answers, remember Jesus’ question. Recognise that He is the answer you have been looking for.
Turn to Him and let Him guide you through life’s challenges. Take a moment to reflect on your life and ask yourself:
Who am I looking for?
What am I searching for?
Is Jesus the answer to my searches?
Jesus is the answer to all our cries, all our problems and all our searching. When He asks, “Who are you looking for?” He is reminding us that He is the one we have been searching for.
Let us turn to Him and find comfort, hope and peace in His presence. May we recognise Jesus as the solution to our problems and find solace in His love and care.
