A fire that broke out at Harare Central Police Station is being investigated, with no clear cause identified yet.
The blaze is thought to have begun in the Criminal Investigations Department and it damaged some exhibits and documents.
Among the affected offices included that of the officer commanding Harare province, Commissioner Wonder Tembo.
The fire started in the early hours of yesterday and continued for several hours.
Harare Central Police Station had been without power for four days prior to the fire, leading to suggestions that it may have been caused by an electrical fault.
National police spokesperson, Assistant Commissioner Paul Nyathi, said they are assessing the damage caused by the fire and further information will be released in due course.

“The fire was reported to have started around midnight and it affected some CID offices and that of the officer commanding Harare province.
“We are still assessing the amount of damage caused by the fire and investigations with a view to finding out what exactly happened have started,” said Ass-Comm Nyathi.
ZESA workers were seen attending the reported fault.
Reports say that the fault was detected yesterday at the Charge Office bus terminus.
It is suspected that the electrical cables were damaged by people burning waste at the terminus.
