President Mugabe and First Lady Amai Grace Mugabe are prime examples of Zimbabwe’s quest for economic empowerment and beneficiation, foreign liberation movements said yesterday.
The representatives of the sister revolutionary movements said this after touring Amai Grace Mugabe Children’s Home and Alpha Omega Dairy in Mazowe, on the sidelines of the just-ended Zanu-PF’s 6th National People’s Congress.
Cde Issufo Carimo of Mozambique’s ruling Frelimo party said: “As neighbours, we have drawn some lessons here. This is a brilliant idea.”
Cde Hamid Bueiha — representing the Sahrawi Arab Democratic Republic — said the First Family’s projects shamed Westerners who believed Africans were backward.
Cde Stanley Simataa of Namibia’s ruling Swapo weighed in, saying: “The sky is the limit for individuals and organisations in Africa. We are impressed.”
Alpha Omega Dairy general manager Mr Stanley Nhari said the multi-million-dollar project demonstrated the success of the land reform and fulfilled the value-addition imperative of Zim-Asset.
He said: “We have proved that we can do it even under sanctions.
“We have paid for everything we found here after acquisition except the land, and I challenge anyone with information contrary to what I am saying.
“We are now ISO certified, meaning our products can compete anywhere in the world.”
Mashonaland Central Provincial Affairs Minister Advocate Martin Dinha said the First Family had borrowed US$20 million to start the dairy, while Cde Coltrane Chimurenga — the secretary general of United States-based December 12 Movement — described the project as revolutionary.
