THE First Lady Umama uGrace Mugabe yesterday donated more than 22 tonnes of foodstuffs to thousands of villagers in Matabeleland North province. The First lady handed over the donation during President Mugabe’s star rally at Somhlolo Stadium in Lupane. The consignment consisted of 10 000kg of mealie-meal, 10 000 kgs of sugar beans, 200kgs of salt and 560 cases of cooking oil with 12 bottles each.
Handing over the donation the First Lady said the First Family was grateful for the support that the people of Matabeleland North are giving to Zanu-PF.
“I would like to thank you for coming in large numbers to meet us. I am grateful for the confidence you have in the leadership of President Mugabe,” she said.
“We shall always cherish the support you give Zanu-PF. Thank you for remaining resilient throughout all the hardship you are facing. It shows that we can see real leadership and principle in President Mugabe.”
The First Lady said Zimbabweans should guard against being fooled into supporting the MDC formations.
“As we go for elections let us not be fooled by MDC formations who are saying they will get money to support the country from foreigners.
“They have been given the opportunity in the past five years but have done nothing. So we now know which party to vote for, the revolutionary party, Zanu-PF,” she said.
Giving a vote of thanks Zanu-PF National Secretary for Economic Affairs Dr Obert Mpofu, paid tribute to the First Family for the positive gesture.
He also said MDC formations would not win any seat in Matabeleland North come 31 July.
“What has happened today is amazing. People came in their numbers and no one was forced to come here.
“In 2008 we lost the election because people were angry with the leadership. This time around we are going to sweep all the seats,” said Dr Mpofu.
