THE Zanu-PF National Secretary for Education Cde Sikhanyiso Ndlovu yesterday handed over his Information Development Centre in Bulawayo’s Mpopoma suburb to the party so that it could be used as a an elections command centre in the Pelandaba-Mpopoma constituency. Cde Ndlovu also provided a computer and a modem that would be used at the centre during the elections.
The centre which was recently renovated, was handed over to the party’s National Assembly candidate, Cde Joseph Tshuma and aspiring councillors for Ward 9 and 13, Cdes Ebbie Dube and Vi Taison Mpofu.
Cde Ndlovu lost to Cde Tshuma in the party’s primary elections last month.
Addressing party members at the centre, Cde Ndlovu said the handover of the centre was part of the party’s efforts to work as a team in order to win the harmonised elections on 31 July.
“What is happening here today is a good example of how united we should be in the country. The country is important to us and it should come first in everything that we do. I have decided to handover this centre to the candidates in the constituency so that it can be used as an elections command centre and also host party meetings. It therefore does not belong to anyone, but the party.
“Mpopoma is a very historical suburb where the revolution started in Bulawayo. Significant people like the late Vice Presidents Joshua Nkomo and Joseph Msika and Matabeleland South Governor Cde Angeline Masuku started the revolution here in Mpopoma.”
He urged party members to remain united and desist from creating divisions and confusion in the party.
“Please let us work together so that all the candidates win the elections. President Mugabe must win at all costs. We must therefore vote for our President, MPs, Senators and councillors. If one candidate loses, it is the party that would have lost, not the individual.
“We want to take all the seats that we lost to MDCs in 2008 and this can only be achieved through teamwork and supporting one another,” said Cde Ndlovu.
He urged party youths to approach residents in a proper manner when conducting their door to door campaigns and avoid disturbing people’s peace
Cde Tshuma likened the forthcoming elections to those of 1980, which brought independence, saying it was a do or die race that Zanu-PF could not afford to lose.
“This coming election must be taken seriously by all who want a better future for this country. We are not going to tolerate factions because they destroy the party. Those who want to create factions will never win because we do not have time for them.
“We are all under President Mugabe and let us thank him for what he has done for us. Let us desist from fighting for food and regalia and focus on unity because it is the most important weapon that will make us defeat our opponents,” said Cde Tshuma.
He thanked Cde Ndlovu for the support and said party cadres like him kept the party alive.
“Cde Ndlovu is my uncle and my mentor in politics. If we learn from people like him we will never go wrong.
“The MDC formations are satanic parties because they support homosexuality and oppression. Zanu-PF is there to free people from oppression and we will continue to stand for the truth,” said Cde Tshuma.
The party’s national youth secretary, Cde Absolom Sikhosana commended Cde Ndlovu for handing over the centre to the party.
“This is a reflection of unity in our party. May this spirit continue during and after the elections. I would like to encourage the youths to maintain peace and follow the footsteps of their elders in the party. We want to win a clean election.
“If you see youths from other parties removing our posters, simply report them to the police because we agreed that we should have a violent free election. Let us all go out on 31 July and vote for Zanu-PF so that we bury all the other parties that are focusing on giving the land back to the whites,” said Cde Sikhosana.
The occasion was also attended by Zanu-PF Bulawayo provincial chairman, Professor Callistus Ndlovu and other party officials.
