THE First Lady Dr Auxillia Mnangagwa graced the World Aquatic Animal Day at the ZimParks as the guest of honour, which was held at the ZimParks Headquarters in Harare on Wednesday (3 April).
The event was running under the theme “Considerations of Aquatic Animals.”
The World Aquatic Animal Day is a day dedicated to aquatic animals and is celebrated on the 3rd of April every year.
In a statement, the Ministry of Information Publicity and Broadcasting Services said the purpose of the celebration aimed to increase global awareness and enhance the conservation of aquatic animals by addressing their ecological and social significance among other things.
“The Purpose of the celebration is to raise global awareness on aquatic animals, their ecological, social, cultural, and economic roles as well as discussing and finding solutions to the challenges they face with the aim of improving their conservation status,” reads the statement.
The statement read aquatic animals in Zimbabwe include amphibians like frogs and toads, Freshwater crabs, reptiles like aquatic snakes, crocodiles and clawless otters, Birds including, flamingos, and ducks, fish, and mammals like hippopotamus.
