A ZANU-PF supporter who was arraigned before the courts for allegedly disrupting First Lady Grace Mugabe’s Bulawayo rally by grabbing a microphone was yesterday remanded to the custody of his parents so he undergoes a mental examination.
Emmanuel Muzorera appeared before Bulawayo provincial magistrate Sibongile Msipa on Friday facing a charge of disrupting a public gathering and pleaded not guilty.
His trial was supposed to start today but the State led by Dennmore Kasenza invoked Section 26 of the Mental Health Act which states that an accused person must be mentally examined by two doctors before a court can proceed with trial. Magistrate Msipa remanded Muzorera to November 11.
Muzorera told magistrate Msipa that he was a member of Zanu-PF who intended to give a solidarity message to the First Lady and that he never intended to disrupt the rally.
Kasenza alleges that on October 15 at around 3 PM, Constable Emmanuel Gundukayi was on duty at AmaZulu Sports Club where the First Lady was holding a rally.
Muzorera, who was one of the people attending the rally, rose and went to the podium where he picked up a microphone.
He was arrested and brought to ZRP Bulawayo Central for further investigations.
