Zimbabwe commemorated the World Day of Prayer with the nation praying and seeking divine answers to various issues affecting the populace.

World Day of Prayer is commemorated on the first Friday of March each year but Zimbabwe delayed due to the Covid-19-induced lockdown.

The commemorations were held in Harare under the theme; “Rise, take your mat and walk.”

In a speech read on her behalf by the Minister of State for Mashonaland East Provincial Affairs Apollonia Munzverengi, the First Lady Amai Auxillia Mnangagwa encouraged the public to continuously pray saying prayer is the only weapon which can be used to overcome challenges.

“We should not tire to pray for one another, especially for our youths to stop drugs and substance abuse. We should also continue to pray for safe maternal delivery and stable marriages in our homes and to shun domestic violence which has wreaked havoc in the lives of many children,” she said.

Various Christian denominations including the Roman Catholic Church, The Salvation Army, AFM, Methodist Church in Zimbabwe, Anglican and Zion Christian Church attended the commemorations.
