FIRST Lady Dr Auxillia Mnangagwa paid a visit to veteran nationalist and former Governor and Resident Minister for Matabeleland South Province, Cde Angeline Masuku, who has been unwell, at her Warringham home on the outskirts of Bulawayo.

For Dr Mnangagwa, who regards Cde Masuku as a mother, this bond was evident as the two warmly embraced and shared an intimate, heart-to-heart conversation.

As a gesture of love and care, Dr Mnangagwa presented Cde Masuku with a blanket, groceries and cash tokens, deeply rooted in the country’s culture of showing gratitude and respect to elders, who have selflessly nurtured generations.

The First Lady took time to offer words of comfort and encouragement to Cde Masuku and her family, wishing her good health.

“I am happy that the doctors are trying their best. The way you look, Mama, one would not even tell that you are not feeling well.

“I am so happy, Mama, that I have seen you,” she said.

Dr Mnangagwa also expressed her appreciation to Cde Masuku for being a pillar of strength to her family.

The First Lady said her gesture should serve as an inspiration to younger generations, to always remember and honour their roots.

“You know, that is what we are teaching our children today that they should not forget their parents. You should be with them. We are learning, that is why we are here today,” she said.

Overcome with emotion, Cde Masuku shed tears of joy at the sight of the First Lady, referring to her as a listening daughter and blessing her for taking the time to visit.

“My daughter, I am so happy with what you have done for me,” she expressed gratitude.

Cde Masuku also applauded the First Lady’s dedication as patron of the Angel of Hope Foundation, praising her tireless work to uplift communities across the country.

“When I was still Minister, Governor in Gwanda, in that office, where we were talking about this organisation (Angel of Hope) you are carrying out countrywide.

“You are treating human beings as human beings, people as people, regardless of who they are, where they come from, or what they are. You know, when I look at you on TV, I say to myself, ‘Yes, there she is. I am proud of you,’” she said.

Cde Masuku also reminisced on her long journey of service to the nation and shared her excitement that she will be celebrating her 90th birthday in just two months.

She also sent her regards to her son, President Mnangagwa, who had visited her some time ago, expressing gratitude for the remarkable work he is doing to transform the country, which she described as “amazing.”

“My daughter, please go and greet my son, Dr E.D. Mnangagwa, and extend my gratitude for the good works he is doing.

“He is a man of his word. No one is being left behind, and he is truly fulfilling his promises.”

Dr Mnangagwa was accompanied by the Minister of State for Provincial Affairs and Devolution for Bulawayo Metropolitan Province, Cde Judith Ncube, during the compassionate visit.
