A 53-year-old man has been arrested for allegedly raping and impregnating his neighbour’s daughter in Stapleford.
Fanuel Chakati, a fish vendor, allegedly raped the juvenile, 16, once without protection when she came to buy dried fish.
The juvenile had been sent by her mother to buy dried fish at Fanuel’s homestead.
He asked her to get inside his room and locked the door.
He raped her and then sold her the dried fish.
Fanuel went on to take a red cloth, which had needles, and threatened the juvenile that if she was going to disclose the matter to anyone, he would kill her either by using his juju or physically.
She did not disclose the matter due to the fear that Fanuel would hurt her.
The matter came to light this week when the juvenile went to Chitungwiza, where she was employed as a maid, since she was not going to school.
Her employer suspected that she was pregnant leading to the arrest of Fanuel.
Harare provincial police spokesperson, Inspector Luckmore Chakanza, confirmed the case.
“Police arrested a man for raping a juvenile.
“The complainant was escorted to Adult Rape Clinic and investigations are continuing,” said Insp Chakanza.
