BULAWAYO’S Fitness Hub, FitKhosie, is set to host a breast cancer awareness expo at Chiefs Village on Saturday.
The event will be held under the theme “No one should face breast cancer alone.”
The activities set to take place at the event include aerobics, Zumba, colour splash, games, a business exhibition, free breast cancer screening, cervical cancer screening, and health check-ups.
The organiser of the event, Makhosi Mlotshwa (32), said that various instructors from Bulawayo would lead the aerobics exercises, while health institutions would provide free breast cancer screening.
“Breast cancer survivorship will also be advised as there will be survivors who will share a word about their journey. Our aim particularly with this year’s theme “no one should face breast cancer alone” is to educate and challenge not only communities in Bulawayo but the country at large to champion the fight against breast cancer. In Zimbabwe alone, our breast cancer numbers have continued to affect communities with rations as high as one in every eight women being affected or being at risk of breast cancer,” he said.
Mlotshwa said his mother was also diagnosed with breast cancer and passed away in 2012.
“It has always been my wish to find ways to reach out to the community and raise awareness about the devastating effects of breast cancer. Through my passion and profession of fitness, I believe I have found a way to engage with the community,” he said.
He added: “This is our second edition of the awareness event. I started it last year and realised the importance of making it an annual event. It provides an opportunity for the community to learn more about breast cancer and the significance of fitness. Additionally, participants can receive free health check-ups.”
