Five aside football seeking way back

FUTSAL organiser, Callistus Keche, says they are working hard to revitalise the sport after it had gone idle in recent years.

He made this remark at a Futsal tournament held at Stoddart Netball Complex hall in Mbare on Saturday.

Five teams took part in the round robin format with 2 Lines Rovers of Mbare emerging 4-2 victors over Chitungwiza-based side Callis 5.

Keche, Charis Matsika, Rueben Dauti, and Frank Farakezi are part of the faces who are working hard to make sure that five-aside football is revitalised in the country.

They have already made strenuous efforts to establish the sport in Chitungwiza and seek to spread to other provinces.

By so doing they are hoping ZIFA will help them establish a provincial and national league.

“In the past years, Futsal was no longer recognised in Zimbabwe and we are trying to bring it back into the picture.

“We are trying to also consult the old guys who once had it and trying to revive Harare Province Futsal League.

“We believe Futsal will also have a say in the fight against drug and substance abuse and also against early marriages. So, we are looking forward to tapping the abundant talent.

“My expectations are for everyone to know this game in the country. We want futsal to be recognised and have league structures in all provinces.

“We want a scenario whereby Zimbabwe will be part of the Futsal World Cup. This will go a long way in improving our game as it has a lot of benefits.

“So, today’s tournament is just a platform for us to send a message that Futsal is back. We want to seek full support from our football governing board so that they fully recognise us and support us,” he said.
