Five districts to compete in Byo provincial ballgames

FIVE districts will compete in the Bulawayo Metropolitan provincial ballgames tomorrow ahead of the national ballgames set for 21-24 July.

The winners will represent Bulawayo at the national ballgames and winners of the national ballgames will then represent Zimbabwe in the Cosafa Games scheduled for Bulawayo from 26-30 August.

The teams will compete in volleyball, netball, soccer, tennis, basketball and rugby and the matches will be at different venues. Rugby is the latest addition to the ballgames. Njabulo Bango, chairperson of the National Association of Primary School Heads (Naph) said they provincial games were being held early in order to give adequate time to prepare for the national games.

“We want to give our teams as much time as possible to practice and perfect their skills ahead of the national games. We’re happy to announce that Intrum Sports will sponsor the games and the winning teams will receive trophies and medals,” said Bango.

Olga Tshuma of Mzilikazi District said they hoped to repeat last year’s good performance when they won soccer and other sporting disciplines.

“We have been ready for a while now and the teams are excited as they want to continue with their winning ways,” said Tshuma. Dorris Mashingaidze of Reigate District said: “We’re ready to take on other teams on Friday. We have practised hard for these games.”

Soccer: Barbourfields Stadium,

Basketball: Northlea High,

Tennis: Bulawayo Athletics Club,

Rugby: Hartsfield grounds.
