A dispute over a chieftainship position is at the centre of a murder case in Guruve in which five family members have been arrested over the alleged killing their relative.
In a statement released on Friday evening, National Police Spokesperson Commissioner Paul Nyathi said the five reportedly murdered, John Chimana Chaora (54),
Commissioner Nyathi said police investigations established that the murder was allegedly masterminded following a dispute over a chieftainship position which the victim was reportedly due to assume.
He said the suspects, Kelvin Katuruza Chaora (26), a male juvenile (16), Chemika Gwenzi (33), Birumbe Mandeya (35) and Ranwes Chaora (58), were arrested following a tip-off received on December 28, 2025 after a missing person report had been made.
“The juvenile implicated Kelvin Katuruza Chaora, Allicious Bvumbe, Chemika Gwenzi and Birumbe Mandeya, leading to their arrest and the subsequent recovery of the victim’s cellphone and a pair of shoes,” said Commissioner Nyathi.
He said on December 31, 2025, the suspects led police to the victim’s body, which was found in an advanced state of decomposition near Ambush Dam, Kazunga Village, Guruve.
Commissioner Nyathi said Kelvin Chaora later implicated Ranwes Chaora, alleging that he had masterminded the murder.
