Five killed in two separate accidents in Zvishavane

FIVE people were killed while three others were injured in two separate accidents that occured in Zvishavane and Mberengwa yesterday.

Midlands Provincial police spokesperson Inspector Emmanuel Mahoko said in the first incident, a Ford Ranger double cab overturned near Yorks Centre along the Mberengwa-West Nicholson highway.

“Mr Cephas Nsingo(43) of Fortune Park Mberengwa was driving a Ford Ranger Double Cab motor vehicle along Mberengwa -West Nicholson highway with five passengers.

“On approaching 27km peg, the vehicle veered off the road and overturned several times.

“Two people died on the spot while the driver and one passenger died on admission at Mberengwa District Hospital. Two passengers were injured,” said Insp Mahoko.

He said at around 6.30am, the same day, Mr Bernard Mauru (48) of Seke, Chitungwiza was driving a Zhong Tong bus belonging to Inter Africa Bus Company with 35 passengers along the Masvingo- Mbalabala road when he side swiped a lorry which was going in the same direction.

“At the same time, Justice Shoko of Zvishavane Light industries was driving an Eicher lorry along the same road, with no passengers on board.

“On approaching 84km peg, it is alleged, the bus tried to overtake the lorry and in the process, hit the lorry. As a result, the lorry overturned while the bus managed to stop. The lorry driver died on the spot and one passenger from the bus was injured,” said Insp Mahoko.
