along the Harare-Bindura Road on Tuesday evening.
The injured are admitted at Bindura Provincial Hospital.
National Traffic police spokesperson Inspector Tigere Chigome yesterday said the Toyota which was travelling towards Harare, had five occupants who all perished on the spot.
“
The accident occurred at around 5:30pm and it involved an ERF haulage truck, which had two occupants and the Toyota vehicle.
On approaching the 63km peg, the Toyota vehicle burst its rear left tyre resulting in the driver losing control and swerving to the right lane.
“Unfortunately, there was an oncoming haulage truck which resulted in a head-on collision. The five, including the driver, died on the spot while the two people in the haulage truck were injured and taken to hospital,” he said.
Police have since identified the deceased as Tatenda (23) and Lawrence (23) Nyandimu, Mavengawenyu Hart Hamadziripi (38) of Harare, Abel Majongwe (32) and Nomore Nyamadzawo (27)
Insp Chigome urged motorists to change tyres on imported vehicles, saying most vehicles came with tyres not favourable to the country’s climatic conditions. “When importing cars it is advisable to change them and use recommended tyres for our conditions. You will realise some are written snow and mud, which means they are not for the hot weather of Africa. We are approaching the hot season and tyre bursts increase during this period and to save life motorists should take the advice.”
