ZIMBABWEAN professional golfers once again are finding it tough despite playing on familiar turf in the FBC Zimbabwe Golf Championship at Royal Harare.

Only five local golfers managed to make the cut, with Darlington Chikayambidze the best placed tied on position 12 after an impressive five-under-par.

The newly turned professional had good rounds of 67 and 70.

Chikayambidze was tied with Wynard Dingle, Keegan Thomas, Heinrich Bruiners, Ryan van der Klis, Dylan Mostert, Graham van der Merwe, Jason Roets and Tyran Snynders.

Also making the cut was Kieran Vincent and Michael Wallace who are sitting on position 36 after posting a two-under-par after the two rounds.

Vincent, who had an opening round of level par 72, bounced back with a 70 to keep his hopes alive while Wallace who graduated last year made his first Zimbabwe Open debut cut.

Robson Chinhoi, who led the local contingent after carding a three-under on the opening day, returned with two-over-par.

Ever consistent Visitor Mapwanya proved that he is one of the best in the country as his composure saw him finish on level par, to complete the local professionals field.

Mapwanya, who has been making waves in the East Africa Golf Tour, will be expected to continue with his composure as he goes in today’s rounds.

The tournament is led by Chilean golfer Thomas Gana who is sitting on 11-under. He is followed by Altin van der Merwe and Andries van de Vyver in joint second.

Jaco Prinsloo and Austin Bautitsa are tied fourth on eight-under-par.
