THE Zimbabwe Fitness and Powerlifting Federation have named a strong team to take part in this year’s edition of the United World of Fitness Fedration (UWFF) Championships in Chiang Mai, Thailand, next month.
The team will be part of the World Championships scheduled for August 21 to 23.
The five Zimbabweans will be competing in different categories. Seasoned bodybuilder Godwin “GS” Mhaka will lead the team that also has a female athlete in Spiwe Munyaka.
Mhaka believes they have what it takes to bring home some medals as the team is made up of athletes who have performed at some big stages.
Mhaka will be taking part in his third international powerlifting event after his debut in Dubai back in April last year.
He followed that up with a campaign in Bangkok, Thailand, where he scooped a gold medal. “We have begun preparations for this year’s edition of the UWSFF Championship and everyone is working hard.“The team has a lot of experienced athletes and the preparations are going on smoothly.
“I am happy with the way the team is preparing for the tournament. We have no injury worries within our team and everything is taking shape.
“There will be a lot of competition and this is an elite event which needs focus and determination. By next month August, we will be ready to smash our personal best.
“We are pushing each other and we learned from our past experience,” said Mhaka.
The elite event will feature over 200 athletes from 50 nations. Mhaka, fresh from recent victories, is determined to dominate.
Yet, the road to glory is not without hurdles.
“Sponsorship remains a major challenge,” he said. I am grateful to Sanja Fitness Centre, Honourable Mupereri and Global Metal Investments for their support, but I need more partners to fuel this mission and lift Zimbabwe’s flag higher,” he said. Mhaka has seen it in body-building and fitness as his trophy cabinet boasts of titles like Mr Ironman Zimbabwe, Mr Zimbabwe, Mr Ironman Botswana and the 2017 Mr Pretoria Classics.
He also won gold in the World Fitness Federation’s Mr Universe Bermuda Beach Model category in Las Vegas, United States.
