Machine players, dressed in matching yellow Umbro T-shirts, were in buoyant mood as they dined at the Meikles pavilion.
The club’s leadership said it was a team bonding exercise.
Club president Twine Phiri, vice-president Farai Jere and chief executive Maxwell Mironga joined their squad and the technical team.
After the meal, the club’s leadership addressed the players and underscored the need to start getting positive results.
Coach Taurai Mangwiro and his assistants Brenna Msiska and Mkhupali Masuku also dined with their players and leaders.
Even the CAPS United backroom staff joined the squad as they feasted before the big match.
Seasoned players Shingi Kawondera and Ashley Rambanapasi also took the chance to address the gathering and psyche up the mood in their camp.
After the pep talks and the meal, the CAPS United camp expressed confidence that they were going to upstage bitter rivals Dynamos this time around.
Mironga said it was nothing out of the ordinary for them to treat their players to a luncheon.
“We often get our players out but the only difference is that we are at Meikles and this comes as we are going to play Dynamos,” said Mironga.
“The idea is to keep the players motivated and focused and I hope the fans will come and support the team at the National Sports Stadium on Sunday.”
CAPS United reserve goalkeeper Itai Chiwara summed up the mood in their camp when he said dining at the upmarket hotel has helped them ease the pressure before the game.
The Green Machine has been pummelled into submission by their blue rivals, in recent games, and Chiwara believe it’s time for CAPS United to get a positive result.
“We are well prepared for the game emotionally and physically, especially after such a luncheon, which is an indication of how the leadership cares for its players.
“This has worked as a morale-booster and helps us not dwell too much on the past but to focus on the present and the future,” said Chiwara.
Chiwara, who is third in the pecking order behind Edmore Sibanda and Muzondiwa Gonese, is confident that they will get their first win over Dynamos since 2009.
“Looking at the game on Sunday, we are going for a win, even though we last defeated Dynamos in 2009.
“We are looking forward to going back to our winning ways.
“On the same note l would want to urge our supporters to come in their thousands and rally behind the Green Machine,” said Chiwara.
Long-serving team manager Shakespeare Chinogwenya, who has been recalled to the technical team, said dining at the upmarket joint should do the trick for them on Sunday.
Chinogwenya, who was part of the backroom staff when CAPS United won back-to-back league titles in 2004 and 2005, was recalled last week to come back and wave his magical touch.
“I hope that it will be our day on Sunday. We are saying enough is enough,” said Chinogwenya.
“I cannot really say we have been getting it wrong.
“We had been trying our best but the goals have not been coming.
“For now I am sure that even God will hear our pleas and He will help us.
“After this (lunch), I am sure the players are highly motivated and will be eager to do well.”
