Flower out to move Mountains

The Kwekwe-based outfit look determined to fight for silverware this year in all formats of the game and Flower wants his players to put behind them the six-wicket defeat they suffered at the hands of Mashonaland Eagles at Harare Sports Club on Sunday.
“We had started well but we lost our last game against Eagles, which wasn’t ideal. However, we have won three out of four games and these guys are pretty confident,” he said.
“Some of the guys in our team have performed well and others are still to settle. It’s still early in the season and we would want them to step up.
“We are now facing Mountaineers – a good team with a lot of national team players. We are looking forward to an exciting game,” said Flower.
The teams will clash again on Thursday in the Twenty20 competition.
Flower said Rhinos were ready for the two matches and prayed that the rains would not disrupt play.
Prolific opener Vusi Sibanda has been excellent with the bat after making his mark with an individual best of 190 runs in their first match of the season against Southern Rocks.
It promises to be a bountiful year for national team player who has piled up a massive 245 runs in two games.
Rhinos, who lost two key members in Gary Ballance and Rikki Wessels, also look forward to some positive performances from all-rounder Graeme Cremer who has contributed some valuable runs while taking wickets and overseas player Jaik Mickleburgh.
Captain Brendan Taylor has also shown his value with some positive batting in the twenty20 games but is still to announce himself in the one-day format.
Mountaineers should give them solid competition as they also come into the match with their tails up after winning their opening matches away at Matabeleland Tuskers a fortnight ago.
Defending 50-over competition champions Mashonaland Eagles, who are still in mourning following the sudden death of former coach Kevin Curren, will host Tuskers at Harare Sports Club.
Curren will be buried this afternoon.
His cousin Kenyon Ziehl, who is also the chief executive officer at Rhinos, yesterday said the former national team all-rounder and coach will be greatly missed.
Ziehl confirmed that a church service would be held at St. George’s College at 2:30pm and then the family will proceed to a private funeral.
“It’s 2:00pm for 2:30pm.
“I think we have lost one of the cricket icons who was dedicated to the game as a player and coach. He worked with great passion and determination as you can see from the messages coming from all over the world.
“Kevin achieved a lot for himself and Zimbabwe Cricket. Many will cherish what he has done for the young players as coach and selector,” said Ziehl.
