Bulawayo-based outfit, Focus Accapella has joined hands with Kwaito legend, Trompies member Eugene Mthethwa, for a cover version of Rebecca Malope’s yesteryear hit Moya Wami.

Fresh from clinching the Roil Bulawayo Arts Awards Outstanding Imbube group award, Focus Accapella, a group that rose to fame last year following their appearance on the Old Mutual Amazing Voices competition is not slowing down.

Mthethwa, an artiste who composed hits for Trompies, Jabu Hlongwane and Vicky Vilakazi among others, said the track will be unique as it will be a fusion of gospel, kwaito and Amapiano.

“I’m looking forward to the release of the song that we’ve already started working on. I know it’s going to be excellent because they (Focus Accapella) are geniuses. People need to look out for the cover version as it’s going to be out soon,” said Mthethwa.

Focus Acappella manager Lawrence Mpatsi said they are grateful for this opportunity to record a cover version of a legend’s song with a legend.

“The collaboration came about when Eugene Mthethwa reached out to us on our social media pages. The song will have changes on lyrics here and there and it’s being produced in South Africa by Mthethwa with the video set to come out after we’ve released the single,” said Mpatsi.

Focus Accapella who are fresh from a successful tour in Namibia have been doing very well following their stint on Amazing Voices.

Commenting on their Namibian tour, Mpatsi said: “It was a very amazing experience that was eye-opening. We got exposed to a lot including cultural diversity and we’re really fortunate to have had such an experience.

“It’s been a great time because from our tour of Windhoek, Walvis Bay and Swakopmund, we returned home to win a RoilBAA. We’re really humbled by the award and we thank God, fans and family who’ve been supporting us throughout this journey.” – @mthabisi_mthire.
