ZIMBABWE’S Ben Follet-Smith has managed to join the field after he made the pre-qualifying cut of the Investec Royal Swazi Open at Royal Swazi Hotel and Spa in Mbabane, Swaziland, yesterday.
The 47th edition is to be played from tomorrow until Sunday and Follet-Smith will join three other exempted local players who include Marc Cayeux, Mark Williams and Mohammad Mandhu.
The former United States-based professional finished third in the qualifiers yesterday with CJ du Plessis and Michael Horrick taking the first two places.
The tournament carries a prize money of R1.4 million.
It was first played in 1971.
Meanwhile, Zimbabwe’s Biggie Chibvuri was the best-placed professional golfer in the West Africa Golf Tour’s The Memorare at Arsenal Golf Club in Nigeria at the weekend.
Chibvuri, together with Visitor Mapwanya, are trying their luck in the West African Tour.
He finished eighth in the $25 000 purse tournament.
The tournament was won by Vincent Torgah who overcame a slow start on the opening day of the tournament by shooting an impressive second round 69 to take advantage of a last day collapse by Magnus Onumajuru who had led for the first two days.
