  • A Bakery Department that bakes fresh bread, cakes and confectionery daily,
  • A Takeaway that sells sumptuous hot meals for breakfast, lunch and dinner (some branches also have sit-in areas),
  • A Butchery that stocks high-quality fresh meat products.
  • A Liquor Department that sells ice-cold local and imported beer, and a variety of wines and spirits; and
  • A Fruit and Vegetable Department for an assortment of fresh produce.

Historical Background
The company that is today known as Food World was founded in December 1985, in St Mary’s, Chitungwiza.
The small supermarket that had an intense focus on customer satisfaction soon attracted a substantial number of customers within a short period and that became the first seed to be sown in the Food World chain of supermarkets.

Proprietors would travel the length of the city in search of the best deals and scarcest products, in order to meet the high demand of customer needs and expectations.
In 1993, that small shop had become so busy, viable and a second supermarket was opened at the same shopping centre!
It was at this point that the company joined the franchise supermarket group Spar, and the new shop operated under the name Food World Spar.

In 1997, Food World opened its third branch, which marked the company’s first foray into the Central Business District.
This branch was called West End Spar, which also inculcated focus on the customer and attention to international standards, ultimately making it a roaring success.
In 2001, Food World left the Spar franchise and became briefly associated with the Food Chain Group, a newly established local franchise.
In the same year, the company board made the decision to operate independently as a family-owned and controlled business.

A rebranding exercise took place, officially launching the company as Food World.
Today, the company is run by the General Manager, Denford Mutashu.
Denford holds a Diploma in Communications and Journalism attained while employed at Food World.

After joining the company as a till operator, Denford rose through the ranks from departmental supervisor to assistant branch manager to personnel manager until he was appointed to his current position of General Manager.

During these years, Denford gained a wealth of invaluable experience in every aspect of the retail business.
He has been with the company for 10 years.
