THE domestic football family has united in condemning the barbaric attack on the Yadah goalkeeper, Godknows Gurure, following the Miracle Boys 2-3 loss to Ngezi Platinum Stars on Friday.
Some members of the club leadership stormed the Yadah dressing room and assaulted the ‘keeper for letting in what they felt were soft goals against the former champions.
Yadah led 2-0 only to lose the match 2-3.
In a statement yesterday, the Premier Soccer League said: “The Premier Soccer League acknowledges receipt of a complaint from the Footballers union of Zimbabwe regarding allegations of assault on a Yadah FC player by a Yadah FC official.
“We have requested the concerned Club to submit detailed reports in addition to the match reports in order for us to establish the facts surrounding this incident.
“The League takes such matters seriously and has commenced investigations into the incident.
“The safety, security and welfare of players, officials and all stakeholders remain our top priority and appropriate measures will be taken in line with our rules and regulations once all relevant reports have been reviewed.
“The PSL will not make any further comment until the necessary reports have been received, and the investigation has been concluded.”
Yadah condemned the incident.
“The Yadah Football Club Executive and management are appalled by the vicious and cowardly attack perpetrated against our Goalkeeper Godknows Gurure following last Friday’s match against Ngezi Platinum FC. We categorically condemn this despicable act of violence.
“As a club, we have ZERO TOLERANCE for violence of any kind. These barbaric and utterly unacceptable acts have absolutely no place in football or in civilised society.
“We condemn in the strongest possible terms the criminal acts of hooliganism, which are made even more reprehensible by the fact that they were carried out by a Sponsor to the club. We condemn the primitive conduct and unleashing of violence upon our goalkeeper.
“We stand unwaveringly behind our goalkeeper and will pursue every available legal avenue until justice is achieved. We will cooperate fully with law enforcement authorities, all stakeholders and demand that the perpetrators face the full wrath of the law.
“Furthermore, the club will conduct a thorough and comprehensive investigation into this matter. We will take immediate and decisive disciplinary action against all perpetrators.
“We sincerely apologise to our goalkeeper, his team mates, other club stakeholders and supporters as well as the football community at large for the unfortunate incident. The criminal misconduct by those involved is squarely on the shoulders of the perpetrators.
“They did not act for the club neither were they sanctioned by the Club leadership to conduct themselves in such a deplorable way. That was an unilateral criminal misconduct by the perpetrators which needs decisive action to safeguard the integrity of the club and its leadership.
“This behaviour will NOT be tolerated. We will take all necessary measures to ensure the safety and security of our players and will hold accountable anyone who threatens or harms our team members.”
