THE fast-growing game of FootGolf is set to boost sports tourism in the country, with the Africa FootGolf Open Championship to be staged in Victoria Falls for the next four years, starting with this year’s edition.
Plans are already underway to spread the game to all communities.
Zimbabwe put on a strong show at the African FootGolf Open Championship held in Victoria Falls from November 22 to 25, confirming its place as one of the top FootGolf nations on the continent.
The tournament, which featured the best footgolfers from six countries – Germany, Slovenia, Morocco, South Africa, Zambia, and Zimbabwe – was a 500-point event and a qualifier for the prestigious Mexico 2026 World Cup.
FootGolf is a hybrid sport in which players kick a football into a cup in as few shots as possible. The name is a portmanteau of football and golf.
Senator Eleven Kambizi won best male sinker, while FootGolf Association chairperson, Stancelous Nyachowe came second.
Angelica Goripa won best female kicker.
All three players have qualified for the 2026 World Cup in Acapulco, Mexico.
FootGolf Zimbabwe president, Danila Kuwengwa said: “We are indeed excited with the progress that this game is making in Zimbabwe. As it stands, we have no doubt that we will be able to get more participation from all corners of the country. The honour to host the Africa FootGolf Open Championship for the next three years, after hosting the first edition, is affirmation that the country is setting the pace in the development of the game, let alone the recent visit to the country by the global president of the game’s administration body.”
A total of 25 Zimbabwean footgolfers were selected to represent the country in various categories, including, Margret Vambe, Mdeleleni Qhubekan , Stanslous Runyararo Nyachowe, Donemore Kuwengwa, Juliana Runyararo Chihora, Kenias Chizema, Magial Majoko, Paul Simbarashe Affiliation Gwiza, Vanessa Munyuki, Elven Kambizi, Tadiwanashe Kambizi, Keith Savanhu, Kaylyn Mheremhere, Angelica Garira, Betty Mashonganyika, Spiwe Mubonderi, Diniwe Beauty Dube, Washington Maxwell Moyo, Nicholas Puruneri , Beauty Mashavave, Vupenyu Chitoro, Emmanuel Rwodzi , Kudakwashe Zakaria, Michael Moyo, Wasara Linda and Prince Makuwerere.
The event was graced by the presence of the FIFG president, Alex Kravanja from Slovenia.
