RISING Afro musician Denzel Kambeu, popularly known as Denzman, is letting his voice do more than entertaining his army of fans.
He is using it to tell the stories many people never get to share.
At just 21, the Bindura-born artist is already carving out a space on Zimbabwe’s music landscape with his emotionally grounded approach.
In an interview, Denzman revealed that he only began his music journey in 2019, but the passion that drives him today feels far older.
“I started singing in 2019. My first song was recorded in Bindura,” he said, reflecting on the humble beginnings that shaped his evolving sound.
A dedicated Afro genre artist, he says Afro music gives him the freedom to connect deeply with listeners.
For him, music is not just rhythm, it is a bridge to people’s lived experiences.
“I sing the Afro genre,” he noted, describing it as a style that allows him to explore emotion, storytelling and social issues all at once.
Among his growing catalogue of songs, one track stands out as the most personal and powerful – ‘Zviri Mumoyo’.
The title, fittingly, translates to what lies in the heart. Denzman says the song was born out of observing the hidden struggles many people carry in silence.
“Among the songs, ‘Zviri Mumoyo’ has the deepest message,” he said.
“The song was inspired by the life of the street kids and the orphans that were left at a very young age. Those people have a lot deep in their hearts.”
The young musician says the song came from a place of empathy and reflection.
He wanted to express what many vulnerable people cannot articulate.
“People have a lot that they keep to themselves. Some have wishes but cannot share with other people. Some even die without telling anybody,” he said, highlighting how silence often becomes a burden for the marginalised.
Denzman believes the responsibility of an artist goes beyond creating catchy melodies.
It includes the ability to feel, understand, and interpret the world from perspectives outside one’s own.
“In the music industry, sometimes you have to put yourself in other people’s shoes so as to come up with the message,” he said.
This philosophy shapes his writing and has become the driving force behind his impactful storytelling.
Through ‘Zviri Mumoyo,’ Denzman hopes to spark conversations about the emotional realities faced by children growing up on the streets, orphans navigating life alone, and adults who carry unspoken pain.
The song gives voice to those who are often overlooked a theme that continues to attract listeners who relate to its raw honesty.
As he prepares to release more music, Denzman remains committed to producing songs that resonate with real-life situations.
His focus is not only on building a name in the competitive Afro music scene but on crafting a meaningful career grounded in compassion and purpose.
From a young man recording his first track in Bindura to becoming a storyteller, Denzman’s journey is only beginning and if ‘Zviri Mumoyo’ is anything to go by, he is an artist whose heart will continue to guide his path.
