UP-and-COMING comedian Pardon Khanye, 23, says only those made of sterner stuff can penetrate the country’s entertainment industry and become household names. And after engaging socialite Babongile Sikhonjwa, who is willing to show him the ropes, Khanye is convinced he will conquer. Having started off as a model competing in events such as Mr Bulawayo Junior and Mr Colleges, Khanye believes modelling helped him discover his potential to entertain and interact with people, something he hopes will advance his career in comedy.
“I’ve been in the modelling industry for quite some time now and I’ve learnt a lot over the years. I’ve begun to understand what the crowd wants or expects and I believe this will help me grow my career,” said Khanye.
Khanye who kicked off his career as a comedian in 2012 by performing at birthday and graduation parties also believes one does not rise to fame overnight.
“I’m not after money at the moment because I still have a lot to learn. For now, I perform at social gatherings to perfect my skills as well as make a name for myself.
“It’s especially challenging when it’s an audience comprising both old and young people because I have to tell jokes that would make everyone laugh,” said the budding comedian.
His biggest performance to date has been the Miss Lupane pageant which was held last December at Rainbow Hotel in Bulawayo.
