Jah Prayzah completed a dazzling double when he descended on The City of Kings to officially unleash two albums within 24 hours of each other.
Chiremerera was launched in Harare on Friday followed by Maita Baba in Bulawayo on Saturday night.
The much hyped and anticipated runoff could not have come at a better time as discerning trends keep knocking. A dire need to endorse one’s brand, style included, in the industry begets rewarding recognition.
Anchored by South Africans Dj Tira, NoMfundo and Shasha, JP in all white, choreographed an energetic performance reminiscent of his routine shows.
Such was the competition for supremacy on stage that even Friday’s launch in the capital did not deter his exuberance.
Melodious NoMfundo wowed the crowd with sing along tunes before all the other bigger stocks graced the stage.
NoMfundo had the shortest stay on stage, and it was Wagwizi who by right, enjoyed the most presence on stage.
In a classic launch script, JP only played two songs from the album; Cheka Ukama, a combo collabo with the SA brigade.
His other was the single that he did with Jemma.
“I have done collaborations with my SA friends, Jemma and Takura all with the fervent hope that each one of you here and at home finds something to enjoy from the album.
“It brings me great pleasure to launch our 13th album here in Bulawayo as there is a musical chord that we strengthen, especially among performers and people from this part of our country,” said the lanky artist on stage before dishing out more.
Dj Tira rolled the curtain down on an eventful night with his exhilarating up-tempo performances meant for the big screen.
Tira is a musician and disc jockey both packed in one. He had live drums to accompany his turntable artistry in gusto leaving the crowd in awe.
He surely juggled the turntables and the mic with remarkable prowess, literally walking the crowd down the motion box.
Shasha summed up endorsement of the rare project.
“I can testify to your happiness. I hope you support Jah Prayzah and enjoy his album.”
Going by the emblem on sleeve, MC on the night, Babongile Sikhonjwa, unpacked it by depicting JP as uMelusi/Mufudzi/Herdboy of the goats (in the game).
The untimely pronouncement, at least to fans, of the end of the jamboree was met with deafening resentment through whistling in a tide of screams by a full house begging for continuity.
To their credit, organisers Gateway Stream Media did all in the book to bring a flawless album launch that conversely asks for a place in the music Hall of Fame.
