Foreign teams for Heath Streak Africa Day tourney

ACADEMY teams from Botswana and South Africa fly into Bulawayo tomorrow to participate at the Old Mutual-Raj Modi Twenty20 Under-13 Cricket Cup whose final will be played on Africa Day.

The tournament, meant to celebrate the first anniversary of the Heath Streak Multi-Sports Academy starts tomorrow afternoon at the academy’s McDonald Club, along Fourth Avenue extension in Bulawayo.

Soon after touching down at the Joshua Mqabuko Nkomo International Airport tomorrow, the South Africans — Boksburg based Rowlin National Cricket Academy — will head to the Heath Streak Multi-Sports Academy to play the opening match of the competition against the hosts.

The hosts will be known as Fazak Zimbabwe while Pepsi are sponsors of Botswana’s Premier Sports Academy.

Joseph Rego, the academy’s chief executive officer and executive director is happy about the partnership that they’ve established with Old Mutual.

“The event is being organised to honour and express our gratitude to Raj Modi who is the financial backbone of the Heath Streak Multi-Sports Academy. Old Mutual has solid foundations established on one core promise, the commitment to always deliver value to its clients.

“We’re proud and honoured by this association and this partnership has taken us to another level. We’re looking forward to a good tournament,” said Rego.

Three matches are lined up for Saturday with Fazak Zimbabwe — coached by national team spin bowler John Nyumbu — taking on Premier Sports Academy in the opening game of the day.

The game will be followed by Premier Sports Academy-Rowlin National Cricket Academy encounter.

Zimbabwe will return to the field in the last Saturday match to face the South Africans.

On Sunday, it will Premier Sports Academy-Rowlin National Cricket Academy clash that will open the day’s programme, followed by the Fazak Zimbabwe-Rowlin National Cricket Academy encounter then the hosts will take on Botswana’s representatives in the last game.

The top two teams will square off in Monday morning final.
