adminrecords, on February 29, 2012, around 7pm Alexander Samuel (42) a Mozambican and his brother, a Sierra Leonean, were waiting for someone to open the gate when they were approached by five unknown assailants who identified themselves as police officers based at Mutare Central Station.
Acting Manicaland police spokesperson, Assistant Inspector Enoch Chishiri, said the suspects were armed with pistols.
“We have not yet established who the gang members are, but preliminary investigations indicate that the two foreign nationals were tracked from the border post. The two nationals said they were coming from Mozambique,” he said.
The five robbers are said to have ordered the two to drive inside their yard saying they were looking for diamonds. When they were inside, the robbers ordered everyone to lie on the floor.
“After searching the foreigners, the robbers took two Nokia phones, a Kodak camera, an i-phone, a blackberry phone, US$200 and 5 000 meticas.
“They then threatened to kill Samuel and ordered him to hand over his Toyota Prado car keys, which they later used as their getaway car,” said assistant inspector Chishiri.
Police said the motor vehicle had 25 litres of petrol and its registration plates are MAA 3577.
Asst Insp Chishiri said the property was valued at US$15 880 and 5 000 meticas.
