Probe into ex-minister’s accident still underway

Road at around 10am involving Cde Chindori-Chininga’s Mercedes Benz and a Nissan pick up truck.
Cde Chininga who was alone, was driving towards Guruve while the truck which was headed for Harare had eight passengers.
National Traffic police spokesperson Inspector Tigere Chigome said, “We are still trying to ascertain the cause of the accident.”
He however, dismissed reports that there was a commuter omnibus when the accident occurred.
“The pick up driver did not try to overtake any commuter omnibus. The details we have so far indicate that it was a head-on collision,” Insp Chigome said.
The other six people injured in the accident were taken to Concession Hospital while Cde Chindori-Chininga was rushed to West End Hospital in Harare.
They were all reported to be in stable conditions. The body of the woman who died in the accident was taken to Concession Hospital mortuary. The Benz and truck were extensively damaged. According to witnesses, Cde Chininga was trapped in his vehicle for about 30 minutes before he was rescued.
