A POLICE officer, Constable Last Taguta (33), has been arrested and charged with corruption after allegedly falsifying a fine receipt to pocket US$25.
Taguta, who is stationed at Chikanga Police Station in Mutare, appeared before Mutare magistrate Mr Tendai Mahwe on Friday, and was remanded to April 22 on US$100 bail.
Taguta was left regretting receipting US$30 on the fines book top copy issued to an offender, and then write US$5 on bottom copies in order to pocket the difference.
Mrs Joyce Tinarwo prosecuted.
It is the State case that that Taguta, who resides at 5288 ZIMTA Park in Mutare, in the company of Constable Kudzanai Chabuda, arrested Oswald Makoni (33), for a traffic offence infraction, arising from pirating using a Honda Fit (AEL 7693) and took him ZRP Chikanga on March 4 at around 10am.
The court heard that Taguta proceeded to inform the complainant that the fine for the offence was US$30, which the Makoni did not have at that time.
Taguta impounded the motor vehicle and released Makoni to enable him to look for the money.
