FORMER Cabinet Minister Ambassador Cain Mathema yesterday expressed his full support for the Constitution of Zimbabwe Amendment (No. 3) Bill during public hearings held at Tsholotsho Town Hall in Tsholotsho, Matabeleland North Province.
He commended the Government and Parliament for conducting nationwide consultations, describing the outreach programme as a clear demonstration of commitment to democratic principles and citizen participation in governance.
Amb Mathema also supported Clause 21 of the Bill, which seeks to restore the political rights of traditional leaders by removing constitutional restrictions on their membership in political parties. He said the proposed provision would empower traditional leaders while ensuring their conduct remains regulated through an Act of Parliament.
Amb Mathema further noted that the amendment would enable communities to have leaders who are accountable, empowered and free to participate in national processes without undue limitations.
