Former Chitungwiza mayor Alderman Philimon Chipiyo was arrested on Monday for allegedly selling a residential stand belonging to someone else.
He allegedly tried to cancel the first buyer’s ownership on the basis that he failed to meet some council requirements.
Police sources say the owner had title deeds to the stand which is located in Unit G, Chitu- ngwiza, and the sale could not be reversed.
Chipiyo and his lawyer Mr Maxwell Mavhunga of Mavhunga and Associates yesterday appeared at the Chitungwiza Magistrates’ Court but the matter was not heard.
Prosecutors ordered police to conduct further investigations into the case.
“He was supposed to appear in court today but prosecutors felt that we should first arrest his alleged accomplice before we bring him to court,” a source said.
Chipiyo was released from custody and the matter will proceed by way of summons.
Meanwhile, MDC-T councillor for Ward 32 Tungamirai Madzo- kere is accused of corruptly facilitating the sale of stands to home seekers in Glen View.
Madzokere is currently in remand prison for allegedly murdering a policeman two years ago.
According to a Harare Residents Trust community report, disgruntled Glen View residents have since drafted a petition rejecting plans to sell the piece of land stretching from Glen View High 1 School to Chemhanza Grounds.
