Harare regional magistrate Mr Stanford Mambanje has convicted former Chitungwiza Municipality director of works Emmanuel Mushata for criminal abuse of duty as a public officer.

Mr Mambanje said the district public prosecutor Mr Tafara Chirambira proved beyond reasonable doubt that Mushata had illegally allocated a residential stand to Chengetai Nyagondo, who was an MDC-T Councillor for Zengeza back then.

The sentence will be delivered on September 13, 2024.

Mushata was initially charged with Nyagondo and Alex Mukweva, a former director of housing at the local authority.

The State said sometime in November 2019, the accused connived and identified an open space in Zengeza 4 without following the provisions of the Chitungwiza Municipality Housing Policy.

The court, however, concluded that the other two parties were not at fault as Mushata was the one who had created the stand in question and proceeded to allocate it.
