FORMER Hwange Football Club players will play a testimonial match for club legend Nyaro Mumba at Chinotimba Stadium in Victoria Falls this Saturday. A forceful forward during his days, Mumba lost sight a couple of years ago and the proceeds from the testimonial match will go towards his upkeep.
Four teams will take part in the testimonial match and these are Hwange FC’s former players nicknamed Mapanga XI, VIP Mosi FC, Comfort and Catering FC.

Secretary-general of the former players Alick Nyoni said  they decided to fundraise for Mumba who served Hwange Football Club with distinction in a career spanning almost a decade.

Mumba also coached a number of football clubs in Victoria Falls and is held in high esteem by the football fraternity in the resort town and Hwange.

‘‘We decided to take it upon ourselves as former players to help one of us. Mumba served Hwange FC for a long time and was loyal to the club that gave him fame. He also helped in the development of football in Victoria Falls and it is befitting that this testimonial match be held there. It is our duty to do the little that we can to help Mumba since he lost his sight. All the proceeds from the match will go towards Mumba’s upkeep,’’ said Nyoni.

Asked if they have approached anyone for help, Nyoni said Edgars, Delta Beverages, Hwange Football Club and some individuals had promised to chip in.

‘‘At this point I can safely say Edgars, Delta Beverages, Hwange Football Club and a number of individuals have promised to do something for us,’’ said Nyoni.

Some of the former Hwange Football Club players who will take part in the testimonial match are present Chipangano coach Nation Dube, Mamelodi Sundowns defender Method Mwanjali, Roger Sibanda, Dumisani Mafikeni, Vitalis Kamocha, Isaac Phiri, London Khumalo, Isaac Tshuma, Milos Phiri, Nyoni and the legendary Amos Rendo.
