FORMER Kambuzuma legislator Tinashe Maduza was back in court yesterday accused of duping a land seeker of US$16 000 in a fake land deal.

Maduza is not new to the courts and has a pending case in which he allegedly sodomised his former employee at gunpoint.

In his latest brush with the law, Maduza who is the former chairman of Four Gracelands Cooperative situated in Warren Park was approached by the complainant, who wanted to purchase a stand.

The complainant joined Four Gracelands, which was selling 300 square meter stands priced at US$8 000.

The complainant went to the office where she met Maduza and paid an initial deposit of US$6000 towards the purchase of the stand.

She was allocated stand number 1652 Gracelands, Warren Park, Harare measuring 300 square metres.

The complainant was told that she would get the residential stand documents from Maduza upon paying the outstanding balance of US$2 000.

Last year, she went to check on her stand intending to commence building and discovered that someone had occupied her stand.

She allegedly approached Maduza, who allocated her another stand and made her pay US$1875 meant for labour and construction up to slab level.

She later realised that the stand she had been given belonged to someone else and upon approaching Maduza, he stated that there was need to pay US$150 for transportation of the bricks from the previous stand and she complied.

The complainant allegedly also paid US$3 000 and US$800 meant for cooperative development and slab payment respectively.

Maduza then issued the complainant with a receipt of US$2000 confirming payment of the outstanding balance of the purchase price of the residential stand.

On February 24 this year, Maduza instructed the complainant to give one Chikore US$200-which was meant for the approval of the plan and she complied.

The complainant later went to Four Gracelands Cooperative offices to verify her residential stand and was told that Maduza was no longer the cooperative’s chairman and the residential stand had been allocated to someone else.

On August 24 the complainant filed a complaint with the police leading to Maduza’s arrest.
