Former MP fined for negligent driving

FORMER MDC-T Member of Parliament for Matobo South Gabriel Ndebele was yesterday fined $100 or three months in jail for failing to observe traffic regulations when he rammed into another vehicle while trying to overtake it at an intersection.Ndebele whose age was not given and resides at House Number 1542 Pelandaba suburb in Bulawayo pleaded not guilty to negligent driving as defined in Section 52 (2) of the Road Traffic Act, Chapter 13:11, but was convicted by Western Commonage magistrate, Mr Victor Mpofu.

The prosecutor, Mr Whatmore Tembo, said sometime last month, Ndebele was driving his car, a red twin-cab Isuzu registration number ABI 8757 towards an eastern direction along Matewele Road.

On approaching a T-junction, Ndebele failed to exercise caution by giving way to another car, a Toyota Hiace which was on the main road.
Due to his failure to observe the traffic rules, Ndebele rammed into the car as he was trying to overtake it and the car was extensively damaged on the front.

However, no one was injured.
A report was made to the police leading to Ndebele’s arrest.
