IN a shocking turn of events, Mthokozisi Manzini, a former assistant manager at the Bulawayo Athletic Club restaurant, has found himself at the centre of a political maelstrom.
Manzini, who rose through the ranks from a humble waiter to a respected assistant manager, has been accused of using the restaurant to harbor his friends within the opposition party political ranks.
According to sources close to the matter, Manzini was friends with a group of members aligned to the Citizens Coalition for Change (CCC), who would frequently visit the restaurant and even hold meetings there. The restaurant, which also has a pub, allegedly became a hub for CCC activities, much to the chagrin of the authorities.
A co-worker, who wished to remain anonymous, revealed that the restaurant was investigated after suspicions were raised about the frequent gatherings.
“It was clear that something was amiss,” the co-worker said. “The authorities were called in, and Manzini was fingered as the one behind the hosting of these meetings.”
Manzini, however, has vehemently denied the allegations, insisting that his friends simply came to the restaurant voluntarily.
“I never hosted any political meetings,” he confided to a colleague. “These people are just my friends, and they came to the restaurant like anyone else.”
Despite his denials, Manzini has reportedly been targeted and attacked by unknown assailants. “He’s been receiving threatening messages and has even been physically assaulted,” a colleague revealed. “It’s a difficult time for him and his family.”
The Bulawayo Athletic Club management has declined to comment on the matter, citing ongoing investigations. The CCC has also distanced itself from the allegations, stating that it does not condone any illegal activities.
As the political storm continues to brew, one thing is certain – Mthokozisi Manzini’s rise to prominence has been abruptly halted, and his future remains uncertain.
