Former Zanu-PF chair arrested for theft

Former Zanu-PF Mashonaland Central provincial chair Luke Mushore has been arrested for allegedly stealing a party vehicle engine and tyres worth US$5 000.

Mushore appeared before Bindura magistrate Mr Elisha Singano on Friday, and will return to court this week for trial.

In August 2014, Zanu-PF allocated him a new Mazda BT50 truck to use for party work.

The ruling party, according to the prosecution, ordered him to return the vehicle after he was relieved of his duties last December.

He, however, failed to do so and Zanu-PF dispatched a mechanic to retrieve the truck.

The mechanic reported to his superiors that the vehicle was in a poor state despite Mushore having driven it for only two months.

Investigations established that the serial number on the engine was allegedly different from the one in the truck’s registration book. The original tyres were also missing, it is alleged. Police were alerted, leading to Mushore’s arrest.

Mr Munyaradzi Mataranyika prosecuted.
