THE Adam Molai Foundation has donated $50 000 worth of goods and provided about 10 doctors as humanitarian assistance to victims of Cyclone Idai that triggered devastating floods in Manicaland and Masvingo provinces.
More than 192 people have been confirmed dead while hundreds are still missing after floods massively destroyed infrastructure in Chipinge, Chimanimani as well as some parts of Masvingo. On Wednesday they presented their donation to Bikita’s acting District Administrator, Innocent Matingwina who is also the chairman of the Civil Protection Unit (CPU) who expressed gratitude to the foundation for their kind gesture.
Founder of the foundation, Mr Adam Molai expressed condolences and heartfelt messages to the families of those that were affected. The foundation went on to hand over the other donations in Chimanimani on Thursday.
The foundation’s programme co-ordinator, Ms Nomagugu Matibiri who stood in for the foundation’s board chairman Mr Itai Watinaye who could not be there due to other pressing issues said as an organisation, one of their virtues was to assist people in need.
She said they were gratified by being one of the organisations to bring in doctors to check on the people’s health adding that it was in times such as those that befell the people of Manicaland and Masvingo provinces where people should show unity of purpose.
“We didn’t know that parts of Masvingo Province were also affected. We were only told when we got to the office of the Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Public Service, Labour and Social Welfare with the goods that there is a need for help in Masvingo’s Bikita district so we have to split the medical provisions to cater for Masvingo as well,” said Ms Matibiri.
Receiving the donations for Bikita, Mr Matingwina said the donation would go a long way in alleviating the people’s suffering adding that they were almost overlooked with a number of donations made to Manicaland Province.
He thanked the foundation for bringing medical provisions and doctors.
