FOUNDERS High School deputy headmaster Nkosana Mlibazi and his accomplice Lazarus Moyo appeared in court on Wednesday, facing allegations of defrauding the school US$600.

The matter was heard before Bulawayo magistrate Takudzwa Gwazemba.

The two accused were represented by their lawyer Byron Sengweni of Sengweni Legal Practice. Through their lawyer, they pleaded not guilty.

Mlibazi and Moyo were remanded out of custody to 24 September after paying US$100 bail.
They were told to reside at the addresses they gave to the court and were ordered not to interfere with State witnesses.

Mlibazi was advised to report every two weeks on Fridays at Nkulumane Police Station. While Moyo was advised to report at Babourfields Police Station every two weeks on Fridays.

The court heard that sometime last year, in August, but at a date not known by the prosecutor

Founders High School raised US$16 000 after providing accommodation, breakfast, lunch and dinner to Confederation of School Sports Associations of Southern Africa (COSSASA) guests. After the COSSASA tournament, the school paid all expenses incurred, the court heard.

It was also heard in court that Founders High School banked the money, but after a couple of days, Mlibazi and Moyo allegedly connived and came up with fake receipts showing that the school owed extra expenses, which totaled US$600 for the items they took on credit from Moyo’s company.

To add weight to their story, the pair allegedly sourced a quotation dated 24 August 2024, after which Mlibazi allegedly facilitated the payment of US$600 to Moyo’s company.

Following that, investigations were carried out and revealed that there were no extra expenses that were incurred. The matter was reported to the police, leading to the arrest of the accused persons.
