In second and third place in the senior category were Montrose Girls High and Hamilton High with Tennyson Hlabangana and CBC taking second and third positions respectively in the junior category.

The theme for this year’s challenge held on Friday was “Educating to Protect the Future.”  Out of the 11 schools in the district, 10 schools attended and only Northlea High did not attend due to other commitments.

Montrose, Founders, Masiyephambili, Hamilton, How Mine, CBC, Petra, Tennyson Hlabangana, Eastview and Induna took part in both the senior and junior teams.

The junior category featured Form Ones and Twos while Form Three up to Form Six featured in the senior category.  Pupils were asked to make prepared and impromptu speeches on crime related topics and winners were chosen according to points scored from the two speeches.

Winning schools walked away with floating trophies and winning pupils were given prize money as well as hampers. In an interview, Bulawayo suburban district’s officer in-charge of crime, Supt Onesmus Fumayi said the police as organisers of the event were happy with the assistance they received from the school in their district.

“The Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) and BACFOZ should be applauded for coming up with such a noble idea of raising crime awareness among the youths,” he said.
