and South Africa in the tournament that is scheduled for March 15 to17.
The local teams have stepped up their preparations for the competition where three women’s sides and a mean’s team will represent the country.
Beach volleyball commissioner, Robert Njerere said they would have wanted to see more teams participating in the tournament but due to lack of resources only four teams have confirmed their participation.
“Some of the teams do not have money and the national association does not have money also, so the teams have to find their own funds.
“The tournament is being hosted by Volleyball South Africa.
“It’s our first time to take part in the tournament but we have been to Durban before.
“We are preparing for our players to play in as many tournaments as possible so that they can earn points to play in the World pro tournaments for qualification for the Olympic Games.
“Currently we are in the process of coming up with a ranking system that’s why we have started to have more local tournaments so that we can have national rankings.
“From those national rankings we have the continental and then international rankings,” Njerere.
Njerere said there are more tournaments being lined up for this year where they are hoping to compete in order to get the required points.
“We have organised a number of tournaments we want to compete in this year.
“Through their participation, the players will earn the much needed points for the World Championships and the Olympics.
“We want them to play so that they also get the experience and exposure.
“They have been preparing individually and the chances we have are bright because of our recent exploits in the region, we have had good results of late,” said Njerere.
Zimbabwe will be represented by Ngonidzashe Takawira and Brighton Ngunzi in the men’s category.
“In the women’s section they will have three teams consisting of the pair of Persuade Gwaba and Vuyiswa Dhlomo while Brenda Mandiya will partner Khanyile Dhlamini and Felistus Chakabveyo will team up with Media Mafuta.
The teams are expected to leave for Cape Town by road on Wednesday.
