matches during the festival which featured six schools from South Africa.
The coach felt their performance was outstanding after a seven wicket win over Lilfordia in their last match.

St John’s are expected to tour South Africa were they will take part in the International Schools cricket festival.

“The boys were on a high after a seven wicket crushing victory over Lilfordia in the schools fixture.
“We have all been working very hard since the beginning of the term and everyone seemed to be in good shape we managed to do well and this is a good sign for our tour.

“The boys’ performance was terrific and it was good that they delivered their game well. We thought it was going to be a challenge playing against boys who were a year older than us but we had the skill and the knowledge for the game.

“Before the festival our boys lacked self belief and I invited Allan Butcher the current national coach to help on that and everyone responded very well.

“It was a very tough festival and keeping our heads above our shoulders means a good start for us.
“It is always good to win matches against South African schools especially against boys a year older than ours. I give credit to my boys for setting very high standards and sticking to the game plan.

“Although we won all our matches our batters still need to be more responsible and try to occupy the crease for a bit longer,” said Mutare.

The St John’s team was led by their captain Michael Booth(all rounder) who believes their bowling was good which contributed to their victory.

“Our bowling and fielding made a big difference, when you bowl a lot of balls and take your chances then there’’s no reason why you cannot win games. We were well prepared with discipline taking the leading role.

“We are now looking forward to our tour where I am sure we will play as a team and make our coach and school proud.

“Will be going for our school cricket tour to South Africa so the Prep School festival was a good preparation us,” said Booth.
