“How can we survive after going for four months without receiving a single cent from the company, yet we’re expected at work everyday?
“Some of our colleagues have since been chased away from their lodgings and are now holed-up at the company factory with nowhere to go,” said a worker who preferred anonymity for fear of victimisation.

He said they suspected massive misappropriation of funds since the company had contracts in operation.
The workers said they tried to seek recourse through the relevant National Employment Council and Union, but to no avail.
“The NEC and Union are toothless.

“Their officials just come and discuss with management before leaving in a huff, with no solution in sight,” said another worker.
The affected workers comprise 179 field staff and 25 head office staff.
When contacted for comment, an official with the company Mr Barry Conrady could neither confirm nor deny that the workers were owed money.

“Right now we’re on our annual shutdown.
“I can’t confirm that the workers are owed anything since I’m a site manager and not on the financial side,” he said.

Chairman of the Zimbabwe Construction and Allied Workers Union Mr Nicholas Mazarura professed ignorance of the Kenmark workers’ plight.

“It is actually news to me. Had the workers come to us, we’d have definitely taken action for them to get their dues,” said Mr Mazarura.
Kenmark Building Contractors was established in 1973 and has constructed Kelvin Corner, Bluff Hill Industrial Park and Jaggers Masasa, among other major projects.
