FOUR people, including the drivers of two trucks, narrowly escaped death on Monday afternoon after they were involved in a head-on collision at the 126km peg along Harare-Bulawayo Road.

Social media reports, especially those on TikTok, had suggested that the accident claimed the lives of one of the drivers and his passengers.

Speaking to Zimpapers this morning, Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) Mashonaland West acting spokesperson, Assistant Inspector Belinda Nyazire, confirmed that the driver, Tawanda Samu, and his passengers were only injured.

The other truck that was involved in the accident

“The first party, Last Maponga, was driving a white DAF truck owned by Prailink Investments towards Harare alone, while the second party, Tawanda Samu, was driving his green DAF truck from Kadoma towards Chegutu with three passengers,” she said.

“On approaching the 126km peg along the said road, Maponga’s truck encroached into the second party’s lane, resulting in a head-on collision, which caused serious injuries to the second party and his passengers,” said Ass Insp Nyazire.

She urged those in the transport industry and road users to exercise extreme caution while driving to protect lives and property.
