FOUR rural schoolgirls attended a two-week Summer Prep Programme for High School Sciences at the University of Pennsylvania, United States, thanks to CAMFED Zimbabwe.
CAMFED Zimbabwe is an organisation which seeks to empower vulnerable girls and young women to create a future they imagine for themselves.
The girls are Ashmance Mukanan’ana, from Betera High School in Buhera, Yeukai Chitepo (Mudzamiri Secondary, Buhera), Alicia Chipendo (Gwangwava High, Rushinga) and Tinotenda Chifodya (St Paul’s Gokwe High).
They said the trip was educational and they got exposure to university life, as well as the chance to use and operate advanced technology.
Each student had to take two modules during their two-week stay in the USA, and the rest of the girls developed keen interests in STEM while exchanging notes with students from across the world.
Tinotenda told H-Metro said the trip was a huge eye opener for her.
“I learnt many things like how to use and operate new advanced technology. We also had after class activities, which included sightseeing, to gain exposure and to mingle with other students,” said Tinotenda.
